Specialist Trips

Check availabilityBook now

Our specialist trips employ experts in their fields to mentor and facilitate unique experiences in the Tarkine wilderness. These experiences include photography expeditions, specialist fungi and bird trips and meditation/writing workshops. We often use remote base camps that allow for quality time in the forest and coast, enhancing the experience immensely. We provide two professional guides, tents, hire gear, all meals including snacks and transport to and from your accommodation.

Nourishing Ecological Identity – a Wild Journey in the Tarkine

Highlights

  • Spending time with John Seed

  • Deep Ecology in the temperate rainforest

  • Tarkine Rainforest Retreat

The aim of this workshop is to combine the power and beauty of the Tarkine’s temperate rainforest with a series of Deep Ecology practises designed to connect you with nature in a way that we wouldn’t normally. We will be combining a series of practises, both in the rainforest and back at the Tarkine Rainforest Retreat.

These practices allow us to experience deep ecology. They were developed over the last 25 years by John Seed, Joanna Macy and others in response to the call by the late Arne Naess (Emeritus Professor of Philosophy at Oslo University, the man who coined the term “deep ecology”) for processes that allow us to move from ecological ideas to ecological identity, ecological self. John and Megan offer these practices in weekend workshops around the world to generate renewal, empowerment and a felt deepening of our sense of connectedness with the Living Earth. These processes are particularly powerful when experienced in the wilderness.

If you’d like to know more about experiential deep ecology, you can see the text of Thinking Like a Mountain – Towards a Council of All Beings at http://www.rainforestinfo.org.au/deep-eco/TLAM%20text.htm. This book was written by John Seed, Joanna Macy and Arne Naess in 1988 and has been translated into 12 languages.
