Things to do in Tasmania – Specialist Trips
Tarkine
integral
Educational,
explorative and experientially focused Specialist trips
At the heart
of who we are and how we operate, is a principal termed integral.
In its basic definition, integral is described as comprehensive,
inclusive, balanced, not leaving anything out. From the onset, this
principal has served as a foundation upon which Tarkine Trails has
grown and evolved. Now we are launching Tarkine Integral to serve
as a platform via which we provide specialised, themed trips that
explore the diverse nature of our relationship to wildness.
Over the years many of our participants have requested that we assemble
specialist trips that build on their experiences in the Tarkine.
They've wanted more time in certain places, more knowledge about
the ecology, or they've wanted to explore their creativity via photography
workshops in the wonderfully creative environment the Tarkine provides.
Others have wanted to explore the local rivers on fishing expeditions
or simply to sit back and relax for days on end in some of the places
they've visited with us. So we've built Tarkine integral to provide
people with just that, more time in the Tarkine!
The trips
Under the Banner Tarkine Integral we will be operating and evolving
photographic trips, specialist fungi and bird trips, fishing trips,
meditative trips, and trips that explore eco spirituality and health.
All of these trips are facilitated by experts in their field providing
you with the highest quality interpretation / facilitation possible.
Each year we will be launching a new range of exciting new experiences
in the Tarkine and eventually abroad, enjoy!

Testimonial – An invitation from Penny Johns, BA member , editor of Vic babbler
Tarkine Trails are a tour company who make a difference! In Autumn this year seven friends and myself joined them for a six day tour of the Tarkine in North West Tasmania . It was absolutely fantastic. There were wonderful camping spots in the pristine forest and along the exhilarating West Coast. This combined with delicious food and their extensive knowledge of the natural and cultural history of the area made for a great walking experience. Tarkine Trails are passionately going about introducing people to the Tarkine and its wealth of natural and historical values. Their intention is to bring awareness to the region and assist its transition to world heritage listing.
If we can get a group of BA members on their December 2007 tour, which is a specialist trip with renowned ornithologist Sarah Lloyd, they will donate a commission of our members fees back to BA Vic group, refer to the figures in the e-newsletter. Now I call that a deal! The money raised will go to the BA Vic Research fund to support our PhD. and masters students here. Post trip ,those students who receive the money will also have their names published in Vic babbler. All you have to do is book with Tarkine Trails and tell them you are a member of Birds Australia.
Regards,
Penny Johns |

Tarkine Photographic workshop
with renowned landscape photographer,
Rob Blakers
Eight days
Whether you're a beginner or a professional photographer, spending eight days in the Tarkine with the master, Rob Blaker's will no doubt be a memorable and eye opening experience. Rob is one of Tasmania's finest landscape professional photographers and has probably spent more time shooting the Tarkine's grand forests and wild coastline than anyone in the world.
This workshop has been designed to provide ample to time to explore the variety of landscapes the Tarkine has to offer. Largely base camp focused, the trip allows for more ease than our regular walks in terms of pack weight and provides quality time at each location so you can genuinely soak up the scenery and shoot till your hearts content.

Eco-psychology Trip
Eight days
Trip Price: $2,299.00
Duration: 8 days
Departs: 22nd to 29th November 2008
The Intention
Our eco-psychology in the Tarkine experience has been designed for people wanting to experience the remoteness and seclusion of the Tarkine in a contemplative context. The trip circumnavigates the Tarkine capturing the best of the rain forest and the Tarkine’s extra -ordinary coastline. During this time we examine our relationship to wild places with the intent of fostering personally transformative experiences that leave people with a larger sense of Self, refreshed and connected to themselves and of course to the gorgeous Tarkine landscape.
Wild places - a resource for wellbeing
Eco-psychology in the Tarkine is forging a new pathway toward a world that values pristine wild places for their immense capacity to positively impact the human experience. Unlike any experience we’ve ever come across, this trip combines serious personal journey work in an pristine ancient environment, yet an environment that is shrouded in controversy regarding it’s future. These two elements form the basis for a fascinating and symbolic inquiry into the value of wild places for us personally and as a global community.
